Fabulous turnout as pets go ferret!

FERRET lovers from around the country gathered in Wirral at the weekend to hold the animals' annual national show.

The event - only the fifth of its kind - was held at the West Cheshire Sailing Club in Harrison Drive, New Brighton.

It was organised by Catherine Croker, from West Kirby, who runs the National Ferret Society's local branch and also operates a ferret sanctuary at her home.

"Ferrets are absolutely beautiful pets and this national show celebrates that," she said.

"A very common misconception is that ferrets are rodents, which they very much are not. They're actually from the same family as badgers and skunks.

"In terms of having them as a pet, ferrets are a bit like a cross between kittens and puppies.

"They have all the cuddle factor of a kitten but you can also take them out for a walk on a lead like a puppy."

Catherine currently has 12 ferrets taking residence at her home but expects more to arrive over the next few months.
