What? Livejournal? What is that?

Well, it is an online community of bloggers. Blogs? That is a term for online journals. But they can also be so much more! Livejournal offers free space, with pre-made templates, for folks to set up their own online journals. What do folks post in these journals? Just about anything you could think of. Daily events, philosophical musings, religion, t.v. shows, fandom, really just about anything you can think of. And Frank the goat, the one adorned with lights, is their mascot.

One of the nicest things about Livejournal is the feel of community. Everyone has a friends page. You simply list your friends (that is those with livejournal accounts), and then their posts show up on your friends page. That way, you don’t have to go to multiple pages to read journal entries. My own journal has my friends, but also has people like Wil Wheaton from Star Trek, and Dilbert on it. Plus, you can enter comments to others posts, and they are automatically send the original poster and they can respond to them. Plus, you have the option of letting everyone see your posts, only folks you list as friends or you can make the posts so only you can read them.

In addition to individual's journals, there are also communities. Communities are built around a specific topic and all posts to the community should be related to that topic. Livejournal has a search feature so you can find interesting topics easily.

So what has this got to do with ferrets? You would be surprised at how many ferret lovers there are. In fact, besides all the individuals who post about their ferrets, there is also several Livejournal communities for ferret lovers.

Yes you can write about your ferrets, but you can also insert photos and get advice from other owners. It is a great resource for ferret folks to get in touch with others, and also to see lots of hilarious stories and cute photos.
